What am I made out of?!

So I decided that it would be cool to put up all the layers that I used in one of my screenprints. This will allow you to get an inside look at what went into it. Dissection time!

 You remember this lovely guy. Just for the record, Leigh Bowery is a fairly large idol of mine. If you don't know him, GET TO. 

 So this is the original image I used for the print, I scanned it from a book.

 I erased the background, leaving a single Leigh, floating in the unknown. 

 In order to expose the image on the screen I had to change it to a halftone (I love halftonesssss!). This means that all the photo information is turned into little dots of varying sizes. I won't go too much into halftones for they are wacky. Just note the little dots when you bring up the full size image.  

These are all the layers I printer off the computer for the silkscreen. The squiggle lines all represent a different color to be printed under the halftone image. There are a few layers missing that I drew out on acetate (the flat pink later and the two outline layers). 

This post may not make any sense to you, oh well. Just dance.

Truckin'

I took a bunch of pictures of the drawing I finished today but they all came out HORRID. I swear. So I'll just give a small detail shot of the snow globe drawing I'm working on (I don't want to give too much away yet). I've been sort of obsessed with snow globes lately. Despite their uselessness, people seek out, covet, and collect these little worlds contained in glass or plastic. I want to write more about this...but I won't right now. I will say this, the act of collecting objects and burying oneself with possessions has been a topic on my mind lately.

Three random photo and plate lithography monotypes!! (pretend excitement)
They are actually pretty cool and took a lot of time. Lithography is an amazing form of printmaking involving a lot of chemicals and muscle. GRR! If you have questions about litho or my muscles, just ask. I love talking about both.

Lost & Found

So I have this stack of drawings that I started a while back. I tend to start many things at once to keep myself content and interested in what I'm doing; this also allows me to recognize correlations between works that are still in progress, possibly changing their outcome. SO ANYWAYS, I found two that I had forgotten about and decided to take them under my wings today. Take a look-see y'all.

 My lil area with the two drawings taking up most of it. Notice the Rolling Stone magazine on the wall featuring the awesome Boy George (I still need to put up a drawing of Leigh Bowery). 

 This guy was started a while back. I drew something I didn't like in one of the circles and out of frustration, put it away. I filled in the unliked circle (sorry circle) with white watercolor and the drawing is already making me happier.

 I took this one out too, still not surreee about it. Drew some more pipes. But it isn't quite saying (I wish it could talk) what I want it to yet.

Work It.

So I decided today (after planning a few 3-D pieces which I will post about later) that I should escape from the squid roller coaster drawing that I got puff paint all over and start a foxy new 30x40 drawing. It took an extra two hours to get to the point I did; I colored some crystals with the WRONG pink and had to then paint them in with white watercolor, recolor them, and touch up all the lines. The new pink was totally worth my eyes and brain throbbing.

CITY WEEKEND!

I was in the city this weekend, hence the no posting for a few days. I had a nasty (the good kind) tizzime. Saw lots of lovelies, art, delish dishes, glasses of alcoholic beverages, and other things. ATTACKING BIG THINGS TOMORROW! I'll post what I'm working on! Here is some fun stuff for y'all to look at in the meantime.

These lil babies are older drawings...cuddle them, make them feel important. Well some are already receiving TLC (I HOPE) from the people I've allowed to adopt them. Okay, I'm gunna stop typing.

Crapola

So last night I was working on this drawing that has taken 2 weeks of my life thus far and GUESS WHAT happened? My lovely tube of pearl blue puff paint exploded all over it. WHOOP!

Notice the lame blue gobs everywhere.

So out of anger and sadness I decided to draw 2000 leaves on vines. It's helping with my grief. 

Screen printing is fun

Today, when I awoke, my heart was longing for the touch of a silkscreen. I definitely miss the voluptuous screen printing studio at my old college. Here are some offspring me and that wonderous mate of a studio produced in our two years together.

My First Screen Print!  Robo-Shopper - 22"x30" (notice the handbag and cell phone)

 hahaha this one is sorta awkward. Its screen printed halftone images with various forms of monotype on plexiglass. - 56"x56"

 I cut out various areas of this print and added craft paper (lervv). Party Skull - 25"x20"

This is a monotype silkscreen. I just drew with washable marker on the screen then pulled it through onto the page using transparent base (clear silkscreen ink). This method is fun and good for fast experiments. 

THESIS?

Yep! This is my Senior Thesis project from the spring. It's an installation comprised of cutout prints (monotypes, tooooonnnsss of plexiglass drypoints, screen prints) and other fabulous materials. The one major thing I wanted my project to be was BIG, so it turned out to be about 13'x13'. 6 months and 300 X-acto blades!
